It's no longer verboten for kids in Berlin to go outside & be kids.  Yeah, so it was against their strict noise pollution laws for kids to be child-like in their noise and play time outside.  So strict, in fact, that this law has caused the closure of kindergartens and day care centers in the city.  For the full news article from the BBC, click here.
 
Do we really need to argue in a court that kids have the right to play and make sounds like, kids playing???  Is it necessary for a law to define that it's "fundamentally and socially tolerable" for kids to make noise on playgrounds?  Who is the poor sap that had to go out and enforce the noise pollution law before it was changed?  Do you think they enjoyed the job?  If they are anything like the security officers I've encountered on my millions of trips thru the Frankfurt airport, my guess would be yes.
 
World legislators need to come together and be productive, perhaps making the following sounds illegal world-wide... Why? Well, that's a silly question.  Because I said so, that's why.
 
1. The sound of any cheap-ass zills. Period.
 
2.  Flip-Flop Pops.  Unless you just got a pedi, and your polish hasn't fully dried... do NOT wear them away from the pool area.  Your feet are getting dirty, your feet are probably sweaty and we really don't care to have a soundtrack to your stinky-steps.
 
3.  News talk shows where 2 or more "experts" are invited to chime-in on current topics.  It is nothing but a yell match, louder and louder... and a bunch of crap anyway.  Where's the mute button?  Better yet, on what channel might I find a Matthew McConaughey movie?  (Insert gratuitous pic of me w/ M.M. to make a few peeps jealous)                                

 

4.  Been to Cairo? Been to Istanbul? How 'bout Jakarta or Mumbai?  The traffic experiences from the backseat of a taxi suck.  The fact that the drivers feel the need to honk, incessantly,  is even worse.  Ban unnecessary honking!  
 
5.  For the following grossly overused songs, let's ban them from haflas and shows for one year.  Anything more than that, and I feel bad about cutting artist royalties.

So you may think that my words are a bit silly, and maybe they are.  But not any more silly than those of Axel Strohbusch of the Department of Noise Protection in Germany, "We have to consider the rights of children to shout while they are growing up." 
 
Really? Did it really have to take the time & energy of lawmakers to come up with that one?
 
And I thought it was the USA that had some issues.   Wo drückt es dich denn?
