What a week it was... Good stuff in NYC, Bad stuff from Egypt & just plain Stupid stuff from the Ukraine.  Read on as bellydance's favorite girlfriend, Dilara dishes in this new installment of Hip-Pops and Jaw-Drops, The Week in Review

Jaw-Drop:
 Perhaps they are upset about natural gas prices... maybe it's confusion over if they should align with Russia, with Europe or act as a bridge country.  My call is that they are just a bunch of immature boys who lack restraint and dignity.  No I'm not talking about the guys from Jersey Shore... It's the Ukrainian Parliament.  Think government sessions are boring?  Add some eggs, head-locks and smoke-bombs and you have yourself some funny TV moments.  Check it out here.
 
Hip-Pop:

Last week I shared info about a film fest in India, this week it's the Tribecca Film Festival. 
 
I missed a few key things this week in NYC, and the one at the top of my list was the showing of Ahmed Ahmed's debut: "Just Like Us."  Shot with the same idea foundation of Vince Vaughn's Wild West Comedy Show a few years back, this film takes the audience on a journey thru the middle east with a caravan of comedians including Ahmed and Omid Djalili.
 
Well received by a host of publications, including Variety, I look forward to it's circulation not only thru the USA, but beyond.  Unfortunate that cable providers in North America that offer VOD including flicks from Tribecca have overlooked this one.  I'll keep you posted on it release.

Jaw-Drop:

Egypt... come on! Really? A new murder trial for Hisham Talaat Moustafa?  Don't recognize the guy's name?  Maybe you'll recognize this one: Suzanne Tamim, the beautiful and talented Lebanese Pop Star whom he has been convicted of murdering.

During the first trial, because of Moustafa's high position in the political, business and society circles, the Egyptian government censored the coverage.  The accusation against him did cause quite a public stir, as many of his stature are considered to be above the law.
 
Will this next trial be as hush-hush?  Will the courts look past his money and status?  I'm hoping for peace for her family, and end to courtroom circus-antics and fair treatment no matter your socio-economic status.  All in favor...?
 
Ending on a happy Hip-Pop:
Another shout-out to the peeps in NYC... namely The Manhattan College Fashion Student Organization.  Tonight's their annual show, fundraiser and it's got a beautiful theme: Arabian Nights.  With help from Tommy Hilfiger and Betsy Johnson, they will have a fab time tonight.  I look forward to the pics!!  Just try to wrap your mind around a Betsey Johnson designed bedlah.
