How I came to Hipness |
|
I took my first bellydance class in 1977, and have been loving it ever since. I'm married to a wonderful guy, have five stepchildren, and four (soon to be five) step grandchildren. I love to design and make costumes, and make silk veils and scarves, but my current job schedule doesn't allow for much of it. I'm hoping to retire soon, and devote more time to working with fabrics. I also love cooking (which is why I'm never skinny), and herb gardening. |

I'd always wanted to learn to bellydance. I was raised in a very strict household, and maybe that had something to do with it, but it always fascinated me. When I finally got to take lessons with Lamar University's Continuing Education Program from a dancer named Scheelena, I just wanted more and more. You never stop learning, never stop growing. |

I've visited Hawaii three times, and been to the Bahamas once, and I've been to a lot of places in the US, and a few in Mexico, but I've never traveled overseas. I'd love to see Scotland and Ireland, Spain, and Australia and New Zealand. |

My husband is the lead drummer for the Habibi of Southeast Texas dance troupe, and I'm learning drum rhythms from him. I also play flute. |

I'm one of the founding members of the Habibi Dance Troupe of Southeast Texas, along with my dance sisters, Leilah and Victoria. I love learning different styles and techniques, I think it broadens your perspective as an artist. |

I love teaching! I remember how exciting it was when I first started learning, and I love seeing student dancers grow and find their style, and also find facets of themselves that sometimes, they didn't know they had. I currently teach at Dance Arts Studio in Lumberton. |
