How I came to Hipness |
Sphinx derives her name from a mixture of the mythological Sphinx of Greek culture, the Arabic Sphinxes, and the Egyptian Sphinx. All are considered unique creatures. They were usually represented as guardians that embodied wisdom, strength, and nobility.
She has taken Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, Lyrical, Tap, Dance Meditation, and Hip Hop, but spent most of her time on Gymnastic and Cheerleading teams until she graduated high school in 2000.
In 2005, Sphinx found her passion in Tribal Fusion Belly Dance. She has taken various long term classes with instructors in Tribal Fusion, Cabaret, and Egyptian Dance. She continues to expand her dance experience and education through various dance workshops for her personal growth.
In 2008, Sphinx recieved her Journey Through Egypt-1 Certification from Dr. Sahra C. Kent, which introduces a variety of Egyptian dance styles with an overview of costume, history, and dance and ritual movement of Cairo, Nubia, Ghawazee, Delta, Suez Canal, Bedouin groups, Siwa, Saidi region, and has learned of the pan-Egyptian Zeffah, Zar and others. She plans to continue her JTE Certification for the full Egyptian Dance Ethnology experience. |
