How I came to Hipness |
|
I am a "bellydance nerd", as my husband calls me and I LOVE all things bellydance related; I have hosted many master teachers such as Princess Farhana, Sharon Kihara, Samantha Emanuelle and, most recently, Deb Rubin to provide a learning forum for my students and the dance community. I have also hosted the "Arabian Nights on the Solent" boat party, which I am hoping to resurrect for 2012! I currently teach in the Southampton area. My favourite colours are black and purple, I love cats and I am totally obsissive about bike racing, mostly MotoGP! |

Dodging the body fascism and lycra, I turned to Bellydance!!!! |

I have been to many fantastic places - I love lemurs, rainforests & chameleons, hence Madagascar (and the solar eclipse) were spectacular! I want to go everywhere!!! LOL Right now, I could do with 2 weeks on the beach...back to the Maldives or my dream - Bora Bora!!!! |

Heike (professional name Akasha) qualified as a JWAAD teacher in 2004. She first starting learning Arabic dance in 1989 and instantly fell in love with the dance. She originally turned to the dance because of her love of all things Egyptian and also because it had nothing to do with Aerobics and the attached body fascism.
Heike studied with a number of well renowned UK and International teachers. These include, amongst others, the JWAAD teachers, Liza Wedgewood and Anne Ashcroft of the Suraya Hilal School of Raks Sharqi, Princess Farhana, the Bellydance Superstars and many Egyptian instructors.
In 2000, Heike was bitten by the Tribal bug. Ever since then, she has taken every Tribal workshop possible with Carolena Nericcio, director of FatChanceBellyDance and Kajira Djoumahna of BlackSheepBellyDance, culminating in achieving a Level 1 teaching certificate in the BlackSheepBellyDance ATS format.
Heike not only teaches and performs regularly at national festival, such as Fantasia, but also internationally, the most noteworthy being Tribal Fest in California.
Heike is the director of the "Tribe of the Honeybadgers", who have wowed audiences with their improvisational style, as well as experimental pieces. She believes strongly in being true to oneself, whilst keeping one's integrity.
Heike is also an instrumental member of the GothlaUK committee and pioneer & promoter of Tribal & Fusion dance England. |
