Dancer
Dance style(s): Cabaret, Tribal, Turkish, Fusion

I've been dancing since 2005. Started on my own, at home. I took classes and became a student teacher. I studied two years with the Maya Zahira School of Dance as a Cabaret student teacher. Previous to my belly dance education, I earned my Bachelor's in Anthropology with a Sociology minor from the University of Kansas. I came to belly dance through recovery and the need to find my self, body and soul, after having my only daughter. I am now the sole owner of Chainsaw Shimmy Productions offering innovative performances in which we take belly dance from busking to clubs to art shows and more. Volunteering for veteran organizations, such as VetAide, peace organizations, such as IVAW and also protection/empowerment groups for women, children, and the mentally disabled is a passion of mine. Belly dance, in my world, can be simply enjoyable and entertaining as well as it can be a powerful medium for change. Visual and performance arts, at the community level, are becoming the front lines for positive social change. My dance incorporates Cabaret, Tribal, and a bit of Turkish (more and more as I study further) in my performances. I believe belly dance comprises the most basic expressive human movements and that these can be used with any music and emotion to convey the unique heart of every dancer.

Teacher
I have been teaching on and off for 5 years. I typically teach beginner to intermediate Tribal and Cabaret basics. Working with children (young enough to stand and all the way up to teens) is at the top of my enjoyment list as a teacher. Parents of little girls have shown me some serious gratitude after workshops. Those girls take it with them a long way. I also like to offer single moms, at-risk women, and low income folks inexpensive lessons (love donations!) because I believe that the people who need it most should have the dance made accessible to them.
