Shay Moore Deep Roots Dance - Seattle, Washington
Meet Shay Moore Deep Roots Dance   How I came to Hipness
The simple truth: I love this dance, and I love the community that grows around it.

The reason I chose to teach this dance was because I wanted to be part of building a community here in Seattle around this beautiful, powerful, transformative art form that is tribal bellydance. And with the help and enthusiasm of students and fellow teachers alike, we have created just that together, and have reached far beyond the geography of one city to reach people around the world with the joy and empowerment this dance brings to our lives. I believe the core of tribal bellydance is not only based in our strength and technique as dancers, but also in our creative spirit and sense of connectedness with fellow dancers in our community and around the globe. I am excited by opportunities to help to guide other women on a path to their own artistic expression. I hope you will be inspired to join us.
Years ago a dear friend invited me to a bellydance class, which was taught by Habib. That first step carried me further than I ever imagined, leading me to a rewarding life as a bellydance teacher, performer, and director.
Hip Travels   Favorites
I go where life carries me. That is quite the adventure right there...   My beloved teachers, Paulette Rees-Denis of Gypsy Caravan, who taught me to always seek my own voice, my own path in the dance; and Carolena Nericcio who showed me the power of going to the root, and learning how to speak volumes in a single expression.

Inspiring improvisational and choreographed dancers alike, Awalim, Hahbi 'Ru, and Zafira. As well as the old school, deepest roots from Jamila Salimpour and the original Bal Anat.

Deep Roots Dance is an ATS-based tribal fusion bellydance company in Seattle, with a focus on joyful expression and strong technique. In the classroom, we work together to increase our strength and knowledge, encouraging dancers of all levels to learn to be more present and confident in their bodies. When we take to the stage, we endeavor to express the deep, undeniable power and beauty which lives within every woman. Director Shay Moore has been teaching and performing bellydance in Seattle and around the nation for over ten years. She was the first instructor to receive teaching certifications in both the Gypsy Caravan and ATS formats, which, combined with her background in cabaret and folkloric styles, allowed her to develop a signature blended style of tribal fusion which she continues to build upon today. She has directed multiple nationally acclaimed performance troupes, and teaches popular weekly classes in the Seattle area. Shay has had the honor of being hosted as a featured instructor and performer at some of the largest tribal bellydance festivals in the world, including Tribal Fest, Tribal Revolution,Tribal Quest Northwest, and 3rd Coast Tribal.
