How I came to Hipness |
I'm just your average silly person. I like to try to keep the mood light so I (and those around) can focus on accomplishing our goals instead of focusing on dealing with being in a funk.
I love to sew and design costumes, so I've really enjoyed the challenge and learning opportunity of diverting those efforts toward dance costumes.
I love music and art, but I'm not a great musician, or a great drawer/painter/sculptor/etc, so dancing, and making my own costumes, gives me a great chance to enjoy and be part of the music and art. |

A voice deep down in my subconscious literally placed the idea in my head. After that I just couldn't find and absorb enough information. I read all kinds of articles, watched videos, and signed up for local classes.
I've been here ever since, and it's become a big part of my life that I cherish deeply. |

Favorites |
I really enjoyed Portland, OR - I felt like I really 'fit' the place. I also enjoyed visiting Salt Lake City and Washington DC. In general though I like to stick to places closer to my home base in Florida, because I much prefer road trips to dealing with airports and airlines.
Even though it'll require a lot of dealing with flying, which I'm not a huge fan of, I'd really like to visit Ireland and Egypt some day. |
|
I have all kinds of favorites, so here are just a few:
Music: Beats Antique, pretty much any drum music, Oum Kalthoum (though the latter tends to command my seated and focused attention, while the others command me to dance)
Dancers: I've seen so many great dancers, thanks to the internet! I go through phases, but right now I'm digging Zoe Jakes, Rachel Brice, Ela Rogers, Sadie, Princess Farhana
Jewelry: spiky tribal bracelets, huge but simple rings with big richly colored stones (like turquoise or amber)
Costuming: I love all kinds of costumes, depending on my mood and the music. I'm really drawn to some of the shapes/lines that are popular in tribal fusion (like the funky pants!) but I also love all the shiny bead work and embellishment that is commonly found in cabaret costumes. I'm also going through a bit of a phase where I like simple, modern/minimalist costumes in awesome fabrics.
